Tips and Ideas

flower confettiMake your own flower petal confetti in two easy steps!

The large, pre-bagged, silk rose petals that you can purchase are nice, and work well for being scattered by a flower girl, but they are rather large for other uses. I wanted to scatter small petals in the center of the tables at my reception (to tie all centerpiece elements together), but the large pre-bagged petals looked too indelicate.

1. Purchase Inexpensive large silk flower bunches (I got mine on sale for
$2.50 a piece). Flowers that work best for this are lilacs, hydrangea or other flowers that are comprised of a cluster of tiny flowers.

2. Pull of each individual flower petal from the stems and place into a plastic container or bag.

It's not a super-clever idea, but it's effective.

I purchased two lilac bushes and the yield was 1 plastic container full or petals. For the method just described, $5.00 was the total cost, an hour of time was also spent, and I had enough petals to use on all 15 tables at the reception. Pre-bagged petals were $5.00 per bag, of which I would probably have needed 7 or more. The cost-savings is clear.
